Designing the Experience and Interface of a Multimedia Mobile App

Project Overview

NUX is a project carried out as part of the UX prototyping course of my master's degree. The mandate: design a complete multimedia application (movies, games, various content) and deliver a high fidelity prototype on Figma, following a comprehensive design process.

The objective: master an end-to-end UX cycle, demonstrate the ability to generate research-based design opportunities and then integrate them into a coherent solution ready to be presented.

My Role

Individual project. I have taken on all of the following responsibilities:

  • Project planning and management;
  • Preliminary research and persona creation;
  • Recruiting participants;
  • Qualitative UX research;
  • Card sorting & information architecture planning;
  • Low fidelity wireframes & high fidelity prototyping (Figma);
  • Remote user testing + session analysis;
  • Final presentation of the solution and strategic rationale.

Challenges

The fictional company wanted to offer a multi-purpose multimedia application. The challenges:

  • Understand the mental models related to the navigation between different types of content (movies, games, various media);
  • Simplifying access to the contents;
  • Aligning user needs (speed, clarity, cognitive cues) with The business mission (increase engagement and content consumption);

Methodology

Card Sorting

  • Find the mental models associated with content categories;
  • Reveal natural groupings in order to optimize the information architecture.

User Tests on Low-Fidelity Prototypes

Objectives:

  • Validate the information architecture;
  • Identify the points of friction in key journeys.

Information Architecture and Interface Design

1. Information architecture (Miro) : Summary of card sorting results → creation of a simplified AI;

2. Low fidelity wireframes (Figma) : first variation of the interface, then second iteration after first user tests;

3. High fidelity prototype (Figma) : UI design with 7 product views;

Conclusion and Learnings

This project allowed me to demonstrate my ability to:

  • Transforming qualitative data into structuring design decisions;
  • Build a high fidelity prototype aligned with real observations;
  • Iterate quickly thanks to well-orchestrated user tests;
  • Design a user interface that incorporates corporate branding.

If I had to continue or refine the project, I would add:

  • A/B tests on the content directory page;
  • Further exploration of content personalization (validate with users).
